Sulfaquinoxaline is an antimicrobial drug belonging to the sulfonamide class. It is commonly used in livestock and poultry to treat coccidiosis. It works by inhibiting the growth and reproduction of bacteria and coccidia by affecting the synthesis of bacterial nucleoprotein. It can be used in combination with methotrexate for stronger efficacy. However, it should be noted that it is toxic to chicks and should not be used for prolonged periods.
